This Privacy Policy applies to the website operated by Camturk — Association des Étudiants Camerounais en Turquie (hereinafter « Camturk », « we », « our »), including member accounts, public pages, contact forms and association communications.

By creating an account or using our services, you acknowledge that you have read this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the platform or contact us to discuss your concerns before proceeding.

Depending on how you use Camturk, we may collect the following categories of information:

• Student profile: university, city, study level, field of study, chapter (antenne), year of study.
• Account data: login credentials (stored in encrypted form), verification status, language preference, directory visibility settings.
• Association activity: event registrations, job applications, story submissions, messages sent via contact forms.
• Technical data: IP address, browser type, device information, session identifiers and server logs necessary for security and operation.

We do not intentionally collect sensitive categories of data (health, political opinions, etc.) unless you voluntarily provide them in free-text fields. Please avoid sharing unnecessary sensitive information in public areas of the site.

4. Purposes of processing

Camturk processes personal data exclusively for legitimate association purposes, including:

• Managing membership applications, accounts and chapter affiliation (Art. 10–11 of the statutes).
• Organising events, announcements, mentoring and community support activities.
• Operating the member directory where you have opted in to public visibility.
• Communicating official association news, convocations and administrative notices.
• Maintaining the security, integrity and performance of the website.
• Complying with applicable legal obligations and responding to lawful requests from authorities.

5. Legal basis

Processing is carried out on one or more of the following grounds:

• Performance of the membership relationship — data necessary to provide association services you request.
• Legitimate interests — secure operation of the platform, fraud prevention and internal administration, balanced against your rights.
• Consent — where required, for example optional directory visibility or non-essential cookies.
• Legal obligation — when retention or disclosure is required by applicable law.

6. Sharing & recipients

Camturk does not sell personal data. Access is limited to:

• Authorised administrators and National Executive Committee members with a need-to-know.
• Chapter coordinators for members affiliated with their antenne.
• Technical service providers hosting or maintaining the website, bound by confidentiality obligations.

Information you choose to display in the public member directory is visible to all website visitors. Other members may see limited profile data according to your privacy settings.

7. Retention periods

We retain personal data only as long as necessary for the purposes above:

• Active membership: for the duration of your membership and a reasonable period thereafter.
• Inactive accounts: may be archived or deleted after prolonged inactivity, subject to statutory retention requirements.
• Server logs: typically retained for a limited security period, then deleted or anonymised.

When data is no longer required, we delete or anonymise it unless a longer retention period is mandated by law or justified for dispute resolution.

8. Security measures

Camturk implements appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect data against unauthorised access, alteration, disclosure or destruction. These include access controls, encrypted passwords, HTTPS transport where configured, and restricted administrative permissions.

No online system is completely secure. We encourage members to use strong passwords, enable available verification options, and report suspected incidents promptly to contact@camturk.org.

9. Your rights

Subject to applicable law (including Turkish personal data legislation and, where relevant, GDPR for EU residents), you may have the right to:

• Request access to the personal data we hold about you.
• Request correction of inaccurate or incomplete data.
• Request deletion where processing is no longer justified.
• Object to or restrict certain processing activities.
• Withdraw consent where processing is consent-based.
• Lodge a complaint with a competent supervisory authority.

10. International transfers

Camturk serves Cameroonian students in Turkey. Data may be stored on servers located in Turkey or other countries where our hosting providers operate. When data is transferred outside your country of residence, we take reasonable steps to ensure an adequate level of protection consistent with this policy.

We may update this Privacy Policy to reflect changes in our practices, technology or legal requirements. Material changes will be communicated via the website or by e-mail to registered members when appropriate. The date of the latest revision appears at the top of this page.
